Energy-efficient building and redevelopment

Next to the appeal of saving resources, the thought of saving money on recurring utilities costs is also rapidly gaining in popularity. That's why so many community living projects are looking into the prospect of efficiently using resources as well as building materials to improve their quality of living.

At Wohnprojekte-Berlin.info, we've adapted the above graphic to make the energy efficiency classifications easier to understand. In 2007, the Energy Performance Certificate was introduced to specify in detail the energy efficiency of each individual building and living space in the EU, and the above graphic is a visual aid used to understand it a bit more simply. The Energy Performance Certificate and its accompanying graphic is compulsorily available in the EU to prospective buyers and renters for every building and living space.

We've chosen to use the graphics below for the projects on this portal. These graphics are conventionally used for electrical appliances in the EU, and we've adapted them to classify buildings into categories of energy efficiency. According to these graphics, the "greener" the building is, the less energy it demands, measured in kWh/m²/year (kilowatt hours per square meter of space per year).

The length of the bar represents the entire primary energy usage per year; the shorter the bar, the less energy is used, and vice versa.
