A communal building project for families, couples and singles in an extremely efficient energy-saving multifamily house (classified as a Passivhaus). The goal is living together well under one roof as neighbors belonging to different generations.
KlimaSolarHaus is planned as a multiple-story newly built apartment building in the Samariterviertel (Samariter Quarter). It is envisioned as a multigenerational house with 19 living units erected by the communal building venture for the use of its members. The property is centrally located, yet has easy access to green spaces like a garden and a park. Since combining ecological and communal emphases is important to us, a communally-cultivated garden and a large space on the ground floor for the various activities of the community are planned. The house will be handicapped-accessible.
We want to bridge the segregation of young and old by means of multigenerational cohousing. The community is made up of families with children, couples and singles, the employed and the retired, thus fulfilling the desires and needs of each community member for a mutual support network in the day-to-day. We also equally value finding a balance between the needs for reciprocal support and for self-determination.
The project will be carried out through the engagement of its members, their reliability and readiness to compromise. They live connected to each other as neighbors, yet in individual living spaces. The rooms and spaces designated to be used communally offer each generation – children, parents and grandparents alike – a framework for regular communication and group activities.
Special building goals:
Since the house will be erected as a multistory "Passivhaus," that entails the following:
- The thermal insulation of the outer walls will be above average.
- The window heat insulation will be built to Passivhaus standards.
- Thermal bridge-free construction,
- Hermetic sealing,
- Fitted with a comfortable ventilation system yielding a highly effective heat exchange for heat recapture.
The house will require just a little more than 5% of the heat used by the average living space.
However, we are not satisfied with only this below-average use of energy for heating. In order to supply heating and warm water without using any fossil fuels, the house will be fitted with
- solar panels covering the majority of the annual warm water supply,
- a wood-pellet heating system to supply the remaining needs for warm water and heating.
